Francisco Landazábal was born in Bucaramanga, Colombia in 1969. He grew up in Cartagena, a fortress during the Spanish colonization, famous worldwide for its historical wealth and natural beauty. In that place full of magic, where the tropics express all its strength and contradiction, he spent his childhood, just in front of the sea.  Cheerful and noisy local people and the exuberant colors of the Caribbean were his initial inspiration. He studied at the School of fine arts in Cartagena and then went through the workshop of a French artist who settled in the city.
His further studies in philosophy, and the rational component of the aesthetic phenomenon, gave him a much bigger conviction understand art as a serious and structured profession; where respect for a purist technique was  a fundamental principle of his work from the beginning.
